Lawn mower manufacturers have been pursuing alternatives to traditional petrol and corded mowers, building upon advances in battery technology which means that modern lithium-ion batteries offer a considerably higher energy density than the old-fashioned nickel-cadmium variety. Battery-powered rear roller lawn mowers now have enough clout to give their petrol-guzzling equivalents a run for their money, with improved batteries, chargers and run time.
Nothing is more pleasing to the eye than classic lawn stripes to create neighbourhood lawn envy and achieving this isn't complicated. The rear roller creates stripes by pushing the blades of grass forwards and pressing them down as the mower passes over. The actual stripe effect is caused by light reflecting off the grass; the lighter shade comes from the blades of grass facing away from you and the darker shade is caused by shadows of the blades of grass facing you. The beautiful thing about striping a lawn is that you don't necessarily have to walk in a straight line for the effet to work. You can create just about any pattern you like, as long as you continue to bend the grass in opposite directions.
These cordless rear roller lawn mowers deliver fantastic cutting results without the pollution, noise and hassle that has, until fairly recently, been an inescapable part of of routine lawn care, or the restriction of a power cord.
